Volume 42 (2014)
This special volume of Electronic Transactions on Numerical Analysis (ETNA) is dedicated to Lothar Reichel on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday, which was on March 2nd, 2012. We had a celebration in April 2013 with a conference at Kent State University, coinciding with the 20th anniversary of this journal. Reichel has been an editor-in-chief from the founding of ETNA, in 1993.
The career of Lothar Reichel has been extremely productive, and has already left a mark in the profession in several areas including: iterative methods for linear and nonlinear systems, eigenvalue problems, ill-posed and inverse problems, image restoration, polynomial and rational approximation theory, and orthogonal polynomials and quadrature. In fact, over the last thirty years he has published more than two hundred papers with more than fifty collaborators (including his ten Ph.D. students), and these papers have been cited more than two thousand times.
Beyond the impressive numbers, Lothar enjoys the company and friendship of his collaborators, many of whom were present at the Kent State conference, together with other colleagues and friends.
The papers in this volume were handled by members of the ETNA Editorial Board using the same procedures and standards as other ETNA papers.
